WHAT IS REFLEXOLOGY?Reflexology is the science that is based on the principle that there are reflexes in the hands and feet that correspond to all parts of the body. It is a very specific technique of applying pressure to these reflexes to bring about the desired results. Its history can be traced back to both the Egyptian and Chinese cultures. Modern day Reflexology was developed in the United States by Eunice Ingham in the 1930's after her studies of Zone Therapy with Dr Fitzgerald. She is also the one who designed the official copyrighted foot charts based on her findings. Reflexology is a unique pressure technique and should not be confused with massage.
The primary benefits of a Reflexology treatment is the release of stress and tension, and the improvement of circulation, (both blood and lymphatic). Reflexology helps to normalize body functions and bring about homeostasis. Doctors agree that 75% of all illnesses are stress related. Since Reflexology remarkably relieves stress, many people experience wonderful results, especially when combined with proper nutrition and exercise. Reflexology cannot make any condition worse. Since only the hands are used, it is a safe effective way to better health.
Usually a person should begin with 2 or 3 treatments a week for the first couple of weeks. A series of 6 treatments should begin to bring some positive results. Then treatments can be spaced farther apart until the individual finds what works best for them.
