Why do you think people seem to deteriorate as they grow older? Why do we think it is normal to become weaker and more easily fatigued as we age. For most of us, it is simply that our muscle mass has become smaller. Sarcopenia is the term used to describe muscle shrinkage that is age-related. The good news is that we can have control over the state of our bodies and our muscle mass as we age. Most cases of sarcopenia are a result of muscles that are not used rather than the aging process or years that have been added to our lives. When we fail to add exercise to our lives we are condemning our muscles to grow old. When I was doing the audio tapes for the Victory Theory, I felt the title "Why Grow Old" was a perfect one. It has been my experience that most of what we think about aging is obsolete. Today we are coming to realize that there is so much value in adding exercise to our lives. Some of the value may even be prolonging our lives, so of course we want to improve the quality of our lives if we are going to stay here longer. When it comes to aging I think most people would agree that it is the quality more than the quantity of years that we are concerned with. I have often observed aging adults who say they do not want to live to be 80, 90 or 100 years old if it means living a life of suffering and limitation. Can you change the way you age? You bet you can! You have more control than you can imagine. Since we have determined that one of the key ingredients to living a healthier and longer life is exercise, why not use an exercise that is proving itself to be not only the easiest, but also the most efficient exercise possible? Doing even 10 (5 minutes) Life Lift breaths a day can give you benefits. Increase that to 20 (10 minutes) and you have increased your benefits dramatically. It only gets better when you do a full 20 minute workout, which is somewhere around 40 Life Lift breaths. Those of us who do this regularly see it on our faces, feel it in our energy level and also in our reduced stress level. That brings me to more information that was revealed in a study done to determine what kept certain people alive and healthy after the age of 100 years. In this study done by a Harvard Medical team on more than 150 people over the age of 100 for a period of 5 years the people studied were not plagued with the typical illnesses usually associated with old age. They were all alert and vibrant. All of the people in the study had something in common. They all showed very low levels of neuroticism (unhealthy feelings of sadness, fear, anxiety or anger. )These feelings have been show to disturb heartbeats, reduce the functioning of the immune system and even accelerate the aging process. You may be the kind of person who experiences excessive amounts of stress and although you can't change your basic personality make up, you can change the way you respond to stress. Here are some of the ways you can reduce your stress in order to live a longer life with improved quality.

Be positive - Your attitude and outlook set the tone for your day!
Be consistent - Do some Life Lift breaths - ever day!
Be committed - To your health and mental well-being

There are a whole host of things that you can improve as you get older. You can get healthier, more attractive, wiser. Now does that sound appealing to you? I would bet your answer is yes. I recently saw an advertisement for a popular magazine. They were saying that their magazine included articles on the best things about being over 50. One of the comments was "good health, personal wealth, travel. There's so much we can do that we couldn't enjoy or afford at 20. " I loved reading this because I totally agree that we have the capacity to get better and better with each new year of our lives. One thing I feel strongly about is working to improve the quality of your life will certainly increase your desire to have longer life. I wish you a long, healthy and happy life.
