Two weeks ago, I was exhibiting all of the company's products at the Parker seminar in Las Vegas, a huge gathering of chiropractors from all over the world. Tracy and the kids were originally going to come with me on this trip, and so we had decided to drive our new car (paid for by HTE, thank you very much) on the 12- hour journey across the mountains. A few weeks before the event, Tracy and I suddenly realized we had decided to voluntarily have Ezra, our 6-month old, in a car for 12 hours at a time twice in a five-day period. Before checking ourselves into an institution for the parentally insane, we realized the lunacy of the trip, and decided that I would go by myself.
Fortunately, an extern began working n my chiropractic office just two weeks prior to this seminar. An extern is someone who is in their last trimester of chiropractic school, who chooses, instead of staying on campus, to come to the office of a field doctor in order to learn, first-hand, how to run a practice. I offered him the opportunity to come on the trip with me, with two ideas in mind. The firs was to teach him sales skills, by allowing him to help out with the booth, as no matter what business we are in, sales is one of, if not the, most important skill to possess. the second was to enable him to attend as much of the seminar as possible, thereby increasing his chiropractic education as well.
In order to prepare him for the booth experience, I had him use The Chi Machine a few times before and during the trip. The first two days in the booth went well, as he began to learn how to present the machines, and to see how powerful peoples' responses were to their experiences. One of the things we both stressed to people was how important it was to start at just five minutes with The Chi Machine, and to build up the time SLOWLY.
Well.......my extern is relatively young (27), in great health, and a bit headstrong. After the second day of the seminar, we went back to our hotel room. I had arranged to meet some old friends for dinner, and he still had some time before meeting some of his classmates, who were in attendance. After I left, he decided to "see what this Chi Machine could really do". He set it for 25 minutes, and took a ride. Then he went out with his friends, and during the evening had a couple of beers. He didn't tell me that he had done this.
At about 9 AM the next morning, we were in the booth, and he looked at with a very sickly look on his face, as his body wobbled from side to side. He said, “Either I have to go lie down, or my body is going to make me lie down." He disappeared, never to return for the rest of the day. When I got back to the hotel, I found out what had happened to him.
He learned two things that day: The first was a lesson i personal responsibility, of how important it is to take care of yourself when others are relying on you. The second was that when we say start off with The Chi Machine at five minutes and work up SLOWLY, we're not kidding. I hope you will all take this as a gentle reminder that the detoxification that takes place while using The Chi Machine is something to be respected. Regardless of how healthy the person who is trying the machine may appear, they need to workup to longer lengths of time gradually. I can't tell you how many people I have met who were introduced to the machine with a 15 minute session, hated how it made them feel, but later bought one when they were re-introduced to it at 5 minutes. Go slowly at first. It will be worth the wait in the long run.
