What InnerVoice Is
InnerVoice was the original foundation of the AO Scan program. It is a way of measuring emotional frequencies in the voice and examining correlations between emotional patterns and physical physiology.
The scan evaluates the frequencies contained in a person’s voice and organizes them across 12 musical notes, with multiple frequencies occurring within each note.
The technology progressed from analyzing:
- 108 frequencies when InnerVoice was introduced in 2008
- approximately 2,000 frequencies several years later
- more than 7,000 frequencies by the time of this 2021 training
The frequency range discussed is approximately 16.35 Hz–792 Hz.
2. Understanding the InnerVoice Graph
The graph contains 12 notes.
Each note can contain multiple frequency measurements. The numbers across the top represent the relative amplitude of the combined frequencies associated with each note.
Highest 3 notes → emotions being consciously experienced or potentially overcompensated for
Lowest note → emotion being suppressed
The lowest result because this as an emotional pattern the person may be suppressing or avoiding.
If you have limited time, focus first on the lowest/suppressed emotion.
3. The Core Concept: Emotion = Energy in Motion
Emotion is energy/frequency moving through the body.
Emotions can change rapidly:
Happy → sad
Angry → calm
Fearful → peaceful
Emotional experiences may be perceived physically as sensations of expansion or contraction.
Emotions can be put into lower- and higher-frequency states.
Lower-frequency examples
Jealousy, resentment, anxiety, desperation, feeling unfulfilled, confusion, extreme fatigue and unforgiveness.
Higher-frequency examples
Joy, happiness, self-love, awareness, self-discipline, inspiration and—especially—
Constant gratitude.
This is one of the strongest themes
Focusing on gratitude and other positive emotional states can help shift attention away from negative emotional states.
4. Gratitude Is a Major Theme
When noticing yourself moving into a negative emotional state:
Notice it → step back → reevaluate → begin expressing gratitude.
The analogy used is that gratitude functions like light displacing darkness.
Gratitude comes up again as one of the central practices for maintaining emotional well-being.
So gratitude isn’t a side comment —it is woven throughout the emotional framework.
5. Emotions + Sound
Sound can trigger emotional memories very quickly.
Examples include:
- hearing music from your teenage years
- hearing rain
- hearing thunder
- hearing familiar sounds associated with past experiences
Because sound consists of vibration/frequency, you can connect this principle with using the InnerVoice tones.
Sound → vibration → emotional response
This is presented as the rationale for listening to the personalized InnerVoice tones.
6. SPANE
SPANE — Scale of Positive and Negative Experience.
It is a measurement involving positive and negative emotional states, with separate positive and negative subscales.
7. “Feelings Buried Alive Never Die”
We recommend the book Feelings Buried Alive Never Die.
The central concept taken from it is that emotions that are suppressed rather than addressed may continue affecting a person.
This ties directly into the InnerVoice interpretation of the lowest frequency/note as the emotion being suppressed.
There is a story from the book involving measurements made around two dying individuals—one praying with gratitude and another expressing anger.
8. Emotional / Physical Associations
| Emotion | Physical association |
|---|---|
| Anger | Liver |
| Grief | Lungs |
| Worry | Stomach |
| Stress | Heart & brain |
| Fear | Kidneys |
| Low self-esteem | Spleen & pancreas |
9. How to Perform an InnerVoice Scan
1. Drink some water.
2. Clear your thoughts.
3. Take several deep breaths.
4. Be in a quiet room.
5. Hold the microphone near your mouth.
Begin by saying:
“I am [your name].”
Then continue talking naturally for approximately 10 seconds.
The subject doesn’t matter. Examples include talking about:
- weather
- children
- work
- reading a book
- Scripture
- ABCs
- basically anything
The importance is on beginning with:
“I am [name].”
Speak normally—don’t intentionally raise or lower your voice and don’t whisper.
Try to speak continuously without significant pauses. If there are large pauses, the recommendation is to record again.
10. The 12 Emotional Scales
These aren’t necessarily either/or diagnoses. Instead, the goal is balance between the two ends of each emotional scale.
1. Unacknowledged ↔ Self-Validation
Color: Red
The issue revolves around external acknowledgment versus internally knowing your own worth.
Healthy balance means appreciating acknowledgment without depending upon other people’s validation to determine your self-worth.
2. Repetitive Thinking ↔ Creative/Independent Thinking
Color: Orange
One side represents repeatedly cycling through the same thinking.
The other represents independent and creative thought.
The goal is openness to others while maintaining your ability to think independently.
3. Sadness ↔ Inner Peace
Sadness is a normal human emotion.
Inner peace is also healthy.
The objective isn’t to eliminate sadness but to return toward emotional balance rather than remaining stuck in sadness.
4. Emotionally Disconnected ↔ Emotionally Integrated
Color: Gold
Disconnected may look like being mentally/emotionally absent during interaction.
Integrated involves connecting, listening, communicating and being emotionally present.
5. Self-Critical ↔ Self-Love
Color: Yellow
Important distinction:
Self-love ≠ conceit.
Self-love involves accepting and valuing yourself.
Excessive self-criticism includes continually focusing upon perceived flaws:
“I’m too heavy.”
“I’m too ugly.”
“My hair…”
The desired state is balance and healthy self-acceptance.
6. Conditional Love ↔ Unconditional Love
Color: Lime
Conditional:
“I’ll love you if…”
Unconditional love separates the person’s inherent worth from a behavior or action you may disagree with.
7. Anger ↔ Acceptance of Change
Color: Green
Change can provoke anger when circumstances don’t go according to expectations.
Recognize what cannot be controlled and learn to adapt without allowing anger to dominate.

8. Fearful/Overwhelmed ↔ Accountability
Color: Blue
Fear and overwhelm can make people feel unable to function.
The counterbalance presented is accountability:
What CAN I do?
Am I getting up?
Going to work?
Doing my best?
Managing my resources responsibly?
In other words, move attention from uncontrollable fear toward controllable actions.
9. Suppressed Emotional Expression ↔ Appropriate Self-Expression
Color: Dark Blue
Rather than automatically responding:
“I’m fine.”
when you aren’t, show appropriate emotional expression.
The key word is appropriate—not lashing out, belittling or attacking someone, but communicating what you are experiencing.
10. Unworthy/Undeserving ↔ Self-Accepting
Color: Violet
Examples include thoughts such as:
“I don’t deserve that.”
“I don’t deserve that person.”
“I don’t deserve that job.”
“I don’t deserve to feel good.”
Recognizing your worth while also accepting responsibility for choices and growth.
11. Rigid Beliefs ↔ Open to Possibilities
Color: Purple
We develop beliefs from childhood, family, religion, culture and life experience.
Retaining important convictions while remaining capable of listening and considering new information.
12. Conflicting Beliefs ↔ Congruent Beliefs & Actions
Color: Magenta
This concerns bringing beliefs and behavior into greater alignment.
Essentially:
Do my actions match what I say I believe?

13. InnerVoice + Color Glasses
Each emotional octave has a corresponding/supportive octave and color.
If someone has the colored glasses, they may wear the indicated color for approximately:
15 minutes
They do not need to be worn all day.
They may be used while listening to the tones, although it isn’t required.
The tones are more important than the glasses.
14. The Four Main InnerVoice Results
InnerVoice identifies four octaves needing the most attention.
These can change throughout the day because emotions themselves change.
The conceptual interpretation is:
Top 3 = emotions being consciously experienced/overcompensated for
Bottom 1 = suppressed emotional pattern
Therefore, if time is limited:
Focus on the bottom/lowest emotion first.
That’s a particularly useful point for your future AO beginner guide.
15. The Bigger Lesson
Brings everything back to emotional awareness.
Life will always contain:
ups + downs
changes
stress
loss
unexpected circumstances
The goal isn’t a “perfect” emotional life.
The goal is learning to recognize what is happening emotionally and respond intentionally rather than remaining stuck there.
The closing emphasis is essentially:
Love yourself.
Be less critical of yourself and others.
Remain open to learning.
Manage your emotional state.
And practice gratitude.
